Student Teacher Placement

“I was fortunate enough to do a two week placement with EKO during October 2019 as part of my BA (hons) Primary Education degree. The sessions allow children to learn an array of subjects in a multi sensory way. It was fantastic to see all children engaging in subjects, such as Maths and History, outdoors. The sessions provide the opportunity for children to learn for themselves, in a hands on way. All class teachers I spoke to commented that the weekly outdoor sessions improved both focus and attainment within the classroom too.

I learnt so much about being creative when planning lessons and providing a learning environment that enables children to become independent from the EKO staff. They are all so knowledgeable about the outdoors and how to link the environment with the National Curriculum to enhance learning.”

Outdoor Learning CPD for School Staff

“As a school we really wanted to develop the opportunities we give our children through outdoor learning activities. EKO have greatly supported us to enable this to happen. They have provided CPD tailored to our needs, support and advice and useful resources. EKOs personalised approach has empowered and prepared all our staff to embrace outdoor learning resulting in children having fun outside, developing confidence and embedding the learning they are doing in the classroom. I thoroughly recommend EKO CPD support.”

Sandra Lamond, Headteacher, St Mary and St Chad CE (VC) First School, Brewood, November 2018

“As the lead for outdoor learning it has been invaluable working with EKO to set up our own provision of learning outdoors. Rachel’s experience as a school teacher, coupled with her skills and training in forest schools, has meant she has been able to help us as non-forest school trained staff to develop an enriching outdoor curriculum for our children. EKO has helped to guide us through the steps to set up and run a session safely while embracing the forest school ethos. Through CPD sessions for staff and team-teaching lessons EKO has begun to give teaching staff more confidence in how to deliver outdoor learning sessions.”

Weekly School EKO Sessions

“Our Reception pupils buzz after our weekly EKO Forest School sessions. They are happy, focused and enthused throughout the sessions and their positive focus continues in the classroom afterwards”

Mrs Edwards, Class Teacher, Woodfield Infant School

“A big thank you to you all for your support in getting us though the autumn term we have appreciated it and our pupils have had some lovely experiences.”

Sarah Llewellyn, Head teacher, Tettenhall Wood Special School

“We saw huge progress during our weekly EKO sessions: children who started off feeling very distressed at having to wear wellies were happy to put them on; children who were uncomfortable to go outside in the rain and the wind were smiling as they walked along the path; children who initially ran off to play on the gym equipment were choosing to walk with the group and participate in the activities; children who were disengaged at the start began to engage in the sessions by sitting on the tarpaulins and following instructions to complete activities, children who refused to eat anything in class were trying biscuits and hot chocolate; children who didn’t want to touch ‘dirty’ things were picking up sticks, tapping on trees, throwing leaves, climbing and holding onto the branches; they were independently choosing to play with muddy water, soggy sticks, making music, singing songs, searching for things, looking at things, building things, digging for things…. I could go on…..”

Tettenhall Wood School

“Here at Woodfield Infant School we love Educating Kids Outdoors! Natasha and her staff are professional, organised and fantastic with our children. This high quality experience means our children are developing a range of important skills – from communication to physical. They also run our after school club, organising everything from parental help rotas to risk assessments. I know that our children are receiving top quality outdoor education, that can be so difficult to source.”

Bespoke EKO School Days

“The children and staff particularly enjoyed the outdoor aspect of our EKO@WestonPark Day, especially toasting marshmallows around the fire. The range of activities the children took part in throughout the day had strong curriculum links as well as great links with wellbeing, PHSE and connection to nature”. “EKO provided a learning enthused day closely linked to the year 3 history curriculum focusing on Life in the Stone age. Children had the opportunity to take part in an outdoor rich activities which gave them insight into what life would have been like in the the stone age era. Activities included tool making, natural arts and crafts, den building and much, much more. The children thoroughly enjoyed this taylor made experience which bought their learning to life. ”

EKO After School Club

“I just wanted to say a big thank you for providing the EKO Club at school, my daughter Olivia is absolutely loving it, we’ve tried a few different clubs and activities over the last couple of years and this is definitely her absolute favourite, I hope we continue the club next year.”

Karan Birtwistle, parent

“My son attended EKO Club this Thursday and hasn’t stopped talking about it being the “best club ever”. He doesn’t always show that much enthusiasm or drive for activities and often lacks confidence to have a go. As you can imagine, it’s a delight for us to hear such positivity from him. So thank you and I hope he continues to enjoy it with you.”

Ms Simms, parent

“EKO Club is an amazing after school club to be a part of. I have enjoyed watching the children develop as a group, taking part in all the challenges and developing their Bushcraft skills”

Stone Age Themed Days

“Just to say thank you once more for such a great day. I have had lots of children and parents telling me what a great time they had and say that it was the best trip they had ever gone on. Some of them have been going home and asking for the their parents to make bonfires in the gardens and dens. Lovely for them to take it all home. The day really brought to life what life could have been there and allowed them the freedom to explore nature and create what they wanted to with what was at hand.”

Jo Scotton, Year 3 Class Teacher, St Mary & St Chad School
